One More Push: Join the Phone Campaign !
North Parkdale residents who have waited more than 10 years for a recreation centre are being asked to join a telephone campaign to help save the project from the budget axe.

Construction of the Wabash Community Rec Centre (CRC), located in the southeast corner of Sorauren Park at 40 Wabash Avenue, was slated to begin in 2003 following site clean-up in 2001 and 2002. But city staff are recommending a delay until 2006 at the earliest - and possibly until 2010 - because of the city's current budget crisis.

The Wabash CRC Working Group, a volunteer group of residents, made a deputation at City Hall on Feb. 16 to the City's Economic Development and Parks Budget Committee. The Working Group is now organizing a phone campaign and other actions to make the community's voice heard before the final city budget is approved in the next few weeks.

Even three phone calls to one of the councillors on a relevant committee can make a difference. Faxes and letters are also effective. E-mails are the least effective.

Join the campaign! Tell the following councillors that North Parkdale has waited patiently for more than 10 years for a community centre that at one time was second on the city's priority list (prior to the mega-city amalgamation). The community is also ready to raise its own funds (we have a charitable account), seek other sources of government funding, and work with the city to build a centre that meets the needs already identified by two studies.
